A Cocos Wedding is incomplete without the Pendaringan. The Betawi Dictionary states a pendaringan as the place to keep rice. Quite similar to that meaning the pendaringan of the Cocos Community contains uncooked rice, cooking oil, some wood, salt, sugar and other items necessary for cooking. The pendaringan is normally prepared by the community priest called Imam or his assistants called the 'kemiti'. The items in the pendaringan are mixed with the similar items to prepare the food for the guests. This ritual could have been adopted fromt he Betawi culture as many Cocos community originated from Betawi or the old name for Jakarta and most of them are of Bantan origin from West Java.
