Why did the Cocos Islander Community came to Sabah, then North Borneo? They came to North Borneo around 1940s after the second world war. They could be facing some problem like not enough food to eat. So the British Government took them to North Borneo.

Initially they stayed at Bushly Park in Singapore and they were invited to settle down in Perak but they refused.

They finally reached their destination at Tawau, Sabah where most of them settled down at Tiger Estate, a plantation.

So they were here before Sabah obtained its independence in September 1963. Most of them are now Malaysian citizens.
