Sayang Biruang Raja Biruang
Biruang Mati Di tanduk kambing
Pigi mana mahu di buang
Sudah menjadi si darah daging

Hibur hibur biji yang kaku
Cincin bermata jatuh di ruang
Kalau rindu sebut namaku
Airlah mata jangan di buang

Masak nasi si pulan pulan
Kasilah makan di bidadari
Kalau adek menjadi bulan
Abang menjadi si matahari

Pandai Pantun

The Cocos Community likes to recite the Pantun or poetic poem. One of the 'Pandai Pantun' or one who is well versed is Hj Lamin (80 years old) who lives in Kg Balung Cocos Tawau. He is a first generation Cocos Community coming from Cocos-Keeling Islands but his father who used to work at the Cable & Wireless came from Batu Pahat, Johor, of the Javanese origin. The pantun is normally recited during the Melenggok or the Dendang dances. One of the most popular pantun Melenggok is the Dendang Mutilang. He also knows the musical instrument especially the beating of the Indian drum. Pantun is part and parcel of the Cocos Community, it acts as a past time but now part and parcel of their culture inherited from the Islands.
