Cocos Islander Community Showcasing Their Products

Met a Cocos Islander Community from Lahad Datu that participated in the Sabah Best Expo 2010 at 1-BORNEO, we bought some tapioca chips but could not find the 'kerak'(made from crispy rice) and 'serunding'(made of fish, chicken or meat and we preferred fish), glad to have met some countryman whom I originally thought had come from Texas with an Aussie hat.

Cocos Island found in Johor Map

Why was there an island called Cocos Island at the southern tip of Johor, Malaysia?
How was Cocos Islander Community related with Johor?
Was it through the Johor and Cocos Sultanate?
It would be interesting for the historian to research more on this topic.
Could the Cocos man or Alexander Hare had stopped in Johore before going to Sabah ( formerly North Borneo) and reach Pulau Balambangan?

Pulau Balambangan was also in the history of Wali Songo or the infamous 9 Saints in Indonesia. I could not find a Pulau Balambangan in Indonesian map. Could Pulau Balambangan and Sabah had come under the Indonesian influence before through the Majapahit Kingdom?
